ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The VLSI Design and Embedded Systems department focuses on the development and application of advanced electronic systems, combining hardware design, software integration, and system optimization. VLSI (Very-Large-Scale Integration) involves designing integrated circuits by embedding millions of transistors onto a single chip, which is fundamental for creating efficient and powerful microchips. This area covers digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit design, and involves the use of hardware description languages (HDLs) such as VHDL and Verilog, as well as tools for circuit simulation and verification. The department also delves into ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) and FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) design, focusing on creating custom hardware solutions for specific applications.
In addition to VLSI, the department specializes in Embedded Systems, which are computer systems dedicated to specific tasks within larger systems. Embedded systems are typically resource-constrained, and their design involves optimizing hardware and software to work together efficiently. This includes programming microcontrollers and processors, working with real-time operating systems (RTOS), and designing low-level software in languages like C and C++. Embedded systems are widely used in fields such as automotive electronics, industrial automation, medical devices, and IoT (Internet of Things).
Graduates from this department are well-equipped for careers in industries ranging from consumer electronics and telecommunications to automotive and robotics, as they possess the expertise in both hardware and software required to drive innovation in modern electronics. Their work is vital in shaping the future of technologies like AI hardware, smart devices, and autonomous systems.
